Board of Trustees Nominees
I was a member of Unity of San Francisco in the early 1980s, and joined Unity of Walnut Creek in 2014. I was on the Board of Trustee in 2015 and served as chair of the fall fundraiser, Unity Goes Hollywood. I have served as a prayer chaplain, HeartMath® facilitator, and bookstore volunteer. Currently I am an advisor to the board and co-facilitator of the monthly Writers Workshop. I practice Unity Principals in all aspects of my life.
This is an exciting time for Unity. We are expanding in so many ways, and I want to bring my vision, heart and enthusiasm to the board. My vision for Unity of Walnut Creek is to support our growth and presence within our congregation and expand into our surrounding communities. As our consciousness grows, we bring awareness to create meaningful relationships. This is the intention I hold in my heart for our Unity Family.
My wife Carolyn and I began active involvement at Unity eight years ago and became members four years ago. In 2018, I was named an advisor to the board, and in April was selected as a board member. I was on the 2020 Insight Committee in 2015 and co-chaired the Ministerial Search Committee. Currently I co-chair the Outreach Committee and often facilitate at Sunday services. I’m on the team to make Unity the East Bay’s “go-to” place for spiritual events, and I’m active in the Men’s Group and help cook at Unity events and the Monument Crisis Center.
With a background as an accountant and CPA, I have good grasp of fiscal matters and see Unity as financially sound. This allows us to try new things, enabling us to touch many more people than we currently do. I envision Unity as a place where lots of adults and children want to spend their time and learn.
I have served nine years over two terms on the Board of Trustees, including two years as treasurer and three years as president. I have organized and supported many events and activities at Unity, including fundraisers and other events, ministerial search team, and marketing/communications, and I recently taught my first class.
My vision for the next few years is for both Sunday services to be vibrant and robustly attended, the children's program is well attended at all ages, we have a large number of active volunteers who enjoy themselves, we support the community at large at least four times year, and we easily meet our expenses through our joyful abundance.
When Steve and I were looking for a spiritual home, we wanted a place where our four children would learn about community, respect, humility, and charity. We sought a place of diversity that is open to religion and spiritual practice from all walks of life.
Steve and I became official members of Unity more than two years ago, and our experiences have surpassed our expectations. The love and acceptance we have felt from the beginning is truly heartwarming. Unity gave us a spiritual home, and now I would like to give back.
To the Board of Trustees I would bring my many years of experience in public relations, marketing, brand promotion, corporate sponsorship, graphic design, and social networking. I have worked on Unity’s website and have designed donation cards for the Love In Action giving program. I’ll strive for a diverse Unity that grows, thrives, and becomes more fiscally sound.
