Local Social Action

“Love is that dynamic force which brings into manifestation all things. It is the healing force, the cleansing force, and the force that blesses all things we touch. With our hearts filled with love we will see only goodness and purity in everybody and in everything.” - Edgar Cayce

Serving our local communityHelp us provide direct assistance to those in the local community who need physical support and to know that they are embraced as the beloved children of God they are.

If there is a project or need that you are passionate about and would like to take action on, contact the office to discuss starting a new group.

Saturday Lunches for the Homeless

Note: New rules were put into place around food that is provided to homeless shelters. The homeless lunches program is on hold until we can put into place measures to meet the new rules.

The second Saturday of each month at 9:30 a.m. and on other Saturdays that vary, Unity of Walnut Creek prepares hearty lunches for the homeless. These lunches are delivered to the North Concord Shelter on Sundays at 12:00 pm as part of the Friends Feeding Friends program. Helping hands are always welcome as we prepare sandwiches, pack the bags and deliver them. If you'd like to just drop in for a day or join a team regularly, you are welcome.

You can also help by donating money for the Saturday lunch program. If donating by check, make it out to Unity of Walnut Creek and include a memo that you would like the money to go toward “feeding the homeless.” Checks can be dropped in the love offering basket on Sundays or mailed to Unity of Walnut Creek, 1871 Geary Rd., Walnut Creek, CA 94597. Credit card donations can be made using the cards in the back of the sanctuary chairs, in the Bookstore or online.

You are welcome to show up on the second Saturday or contact the Saturday lunches coordinator for other dates.

Warm Clothing Drive

Warm hats, gloves, socks, coats and McDonald’s gift cards are collected to distribute among the homeless at Christmas time. Volunteers are needed to:
  • Coordinate the promotion, collection and sorting of donations from October through December.
  • Distribute items on or around Christmas to homeless neighbors at shelters, under local bridges, in local homeless “tent cities,” etc.
For more information, contact the Warm Coats coordinator.

Monument Crisis Center

The Monument Crisis Center provides food, education, assistance and referrals to families and individuals in crisis, and promotes awareness of needs and resources for at-risk and low income people in Contra Costa County.

You can drop off non-perishable items in the food barrel located outside the Welcome Center. Help is also needed transporting food to the Crisis Center every one to two weeks. For more information, contact the Monument Crisis Center Food Drive coordinator.
