You will be amazed by how much gets done by our small, dedicated staff. For contact information, see the Directory page.
Charlene Balderston, Facilities Manager and Wedding Coordinator
From parking lots to planters, roofs to floors, Charlene juggles the innumerable tasks needed to keep Unity of Walnut Creek’s facilities looking fabulous. She also coordinates the many details of holding events such as weddings, memorials and christenings. Charlene began attending Unity of Walnut Creek in 1974 and joined the staff in 1993.
Ann Goode and Lisa Shumar, Bookstore Sales
Every Sunday, you will see either Ann or Lisa behind the cash register in the Bookstore. A long time member, Ann stepped into sharing the bookstore sales position in 2013. Lisa joined her in late 2018. They coordinate purchasing for and stocking the bookstore and also make sure the refreshment table on the patio is stocked with coffee and tea on Sundays.
Lani Lee and Michelle Cicala, Youth Education Directors
With a heart full of love, Lani and Michelle enfold our children and teens and give them a safe, loving environment where they are treasured. Teaching the children Unity principles and planning enriching experiences such as campouts are all in a day’s work for duo. Lani has been loving our Unity children since 2003. Michelle is a spiritual teacher, artist and energy worker. She has served in the children’s program here at Unity, and as a teacher’s assistant and executive board member of Clayton Valley Parent Preschool. She joined the staff in 2018.
Felicia McBarton, Ministerial Assistant
Felicia is at the center of the swirl of activity at Unity of Walnut Creek: coordinating more than 1,000 classes, workshops and meetings that happen every year in our facilities, organizing volunteer receptionists at the Welcome Center, and supporting a busy minister - among just a few of her duties! Felicia started attending Unity in 2016 and became the ministerial assistant in 2017.
Mike McGarvey, Sunday Services Coordinator
Mike’s focus is on making sure all the pieces that make up the Sunday services come together seamlessly. Coordinating the greeters, counting attendance, bringing the children in to be blessed and making sure the minister gets a snack between services all fall under Mike’s eagle eye. A Unity of Walnut Creek member since the 1970s, Mike has volunteered in many positions, including teaching adult education classes and the Youth of Unity (YOU); he became the Sunday Services Coordinator in 2005.
